Selecting the right fishing rod and reel for bait fishing is very important. Depending on the type and size of fish you plan to target there are specific types of bait fishing rod and reels you should use. For example if you were bait fishing for large catfish you would want a slow action heavy duty rod with a heavy duty spin casting or open face spinning reel.

How To Select The Right Bait Fishing Rod:
1. You need to determine the length of rod you want.

Fast action rods are best for fishing artificial baits such as plugs and lures, where you need great sensitivity and a quick hook set.
3. You need to determine the power of rod you want.
The power of the rod you select is determined by the bait size you intend to use and the size of the fish you want to target. For example id you were targeting large catfish you would need a heavy power rod. Or if you were wanting to fish for crappie you would want a light power rod because you need the rod tip and rod to give because you are fishing with light test line and you don’t want to rip the hook from the fishes mouth when you set the hook.
