Bass Fly Fishing - It’s All About Knowing the Right Time and Place
June 5th, 2008 Posted in Fly Fishing For BassWhen we talk about fly fishing, some people tend to think about pulling a trout from a cold stream. However, when the temperature of the water gets to around 60 degrees, the bass become somewhat agitated and if the angler who is out bass fly fishing is prepared to bide his time even the best tempered variety of bass are tempted to hit the popper on the water’s surface.
With the exception of expert bass fishermen, it is commonly believed that bass prefer to feed at a deeper level, collecting their food much lower down, but when the temperature of the water heats up a little, the bugs are in abundance nearer to the surface and during such warmer spells a good day’s bass fly fishing can be had by all.
Some people actually reap the benefits of presenting smaller baits to the more timid fish in order to gain their confidence. Having almost lulled them into a false sense of security the fisherman will then use larges flies to encourage the fish to bite.
Bass Fly Fishing Equipment
As the usual style rods and reels will not allow the fisherman to use the bait in the exact position he wishes (bearing in mind the weight of the popper or fly) bass fly fishing equipment will be necessary and it’s a good idea for those taking part to practice their casting technique a little before starting out on their bass fly fishing trip.
The day can soon become weary, just sitting in the boat, casting over and over again and watching the fish leap up and swallow a morsel of natural top bait. Your bass fly fishing experience can be made much more pleasurable by taking another rod for bass fly fishing and a few lunkers along with you. There are a few people who claim that bass cannot be caught on fly equipment – but they clearly have never tried bass fly fishing as they would not be of that opinion if they had!
Whether you choose to fish for bass using fly equipment from a boat or simply by sitting on the shore, you will find that most poppers will not get tangled up in the grass under the surface of the water and it is sure to allow you the luxury of getting the best kind of bait into the right part of the water which is full of bass, just waiting for you to catch.
