Lake Fork Texas Bass Fishing
June 19th, 2008 Posted in Texas Bass FishingAny bass fisherman or fisherwoman is well aware of Lake Fork, Texas. Lake Fork offers all the best of Texas Bass fishing. This is a lake which is famed for being a home for bass, which live in its many underwater structures.
The Texas Parks Department has been stocking this lake since 1978 with large mouth bass. By the time the lake was opened to fishing in 1980, it was teeming with bass. Lake Fork boasts the largest bass in Texas, perhaps anywhere in the U.S. – it is not uncommon for bass to be caught from this lake that weigh more than seven pounds! At present, the record is eighteen pounds.
Texas bass fishing can be difficult at Lake Fork if you come unprepared. This is a man made lake which was made while leaving as many of the trees nearby intact as possible. This gives the lake a lot of underwater brush, which is home to bass, but can cause a lot of damage to your boat if you aren’t aware of these underwater structures. There are guides available in the area that can be hired to show you where to fish – and where to avoid.

Lake Fork isn’t the only place in Texas which offers great bass fishing. Choke Canyon, Falcon and Amistad are all great spots for Texas bass fishing excitement. The recent droughts in Texas had for a while left water levels low in these lakes but rainfall has increased, which has returned these lakes to a proper water level.
Choke Canyon State Park is home to Choke Canyon Lake; there are a lot of family friendly events here year round. Here you can have a family trip without a bass fishing tournament going on. On family days, prizes will be given for the biggest catches.
Fall, winter and spring are the best times to fish at Choke Canyon – in summer; it tends to get a little too hot and humid for comfort, with the fish biting less. The bass will go into deeper waters, which makes matters more difficult for less experienced fishers. Deep water fishing is difficult for the novice due to the presence of underwater brush. You may lose your bait on this brush, which could end up being a bit pricey if it is a frequent occurrence.
Texas bass fishing is one of the best activities out there. There are lots of large fish, all you have to do is find and catch them! Most bass fishers catch and release, so the fish just keep on growing. Of course, the more they get caught, the better they are at not getting caught – bass do learn.
